This is Julie’s first year as president of the department. Julie Kenst joined the Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department #1 in 2009. Within her first year she completed the required training to become an interior firefighter and also obtained her Firefighter I Certification. She then went on to get her Basic Vehicle Rescue (BVR) Certification in 2010. In the past, Julie served two years as a Lieutenant for the Department.
Julie holds a bachelor’s degree in Forensic & Investigative Science. She completed internships with the medical examiner’s office as well as the Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s office. It was the time she spent with the fire marshals that sparked her interest in the fire service and caused her to join the Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department #1. Currently, Julie works full-time in the operating rooms at UPMC Passavant as a surgical technician. Outside of the fire department, Julie enjoys spending time with family and baking. She enjoys the beach and going on cruises. Her favorite place in the world is her family’s camp in Jefferson County. As a West Virginia University alumni she is a huge Mountaineers fan and loves going to games when she can.
