Adopt-A-Hydrant for 2015

Time is of the essence when fighting fires. Your Hampton Township Firefighters battle with slippery roads, hidden hydrants, and frozen hose lines all winter long. Please do your part to keep you and your neighbor’s safe by clearing hydrants of snow. A clear path on all four sides makes hydrants easier to locate and operate if the need arises.

Also, in snowy weather, please utilize off-street parking whenever possible. This allows better access for emergency vehicles and allows the Hampton Township Road Department to clean and salt the roads more efficient.

Please remember to not shovel snow into the streets!

We are asking that you shovel the area around your adopted fire hydrant after each snowfall. Clear a path approximately three feet around the hydrant as well as a clear path from the street or roadway so that the hydrant is visible and accessible. Please consider clearing snow from a fire hydrant for your neighbors who may have medical conditions, disabilities, or those who are elderly who may be unable to do so themselves. This act of kindness will benefit the entire neighborhood. Your participation in the Adopt-A-Hydrant Program saves time in the fire department incident response. Remember time is valuable.
If you notice that a fire hydrant has been damaged, missing caps, or leaking, please call the Hampton – Shaler Water Authority immediately at 412-486-4867 between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Mon through Fri or call the after-hours emergency number at 412-822-7766. Your time, efforts, and phone call could save a life.
If you would like to participate in the Adopt-A-Hydrant Program, call the Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department at 412-487-1114 extension – 1. Please leave your name, address and location of the hydrant you are adopting so we can keep track of the hydrants that are being taken care of.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated participation in this Adopt-A-Fire Hydrant Program. Have a safe winter season.
